Actually it makes sense their dynamic, remember when Killua refers to Gon as being light itself? That's literal and darkness is born from light hence how he thinks and gets absorbed by it Dark tendencies and explodes enjoying the fight like hisoka does or losing it like a Son Goku going apeshit. Killua is pretty much the opposite he was raised to kill and always emitted darkness and a I can kill you vibe, yet his facial expressions in awkward experiences are funnier showing his childish light heart and he is so absorbed into friendship especially with Gon pretty much the small light created in the darkness himself. Like yin yang
There contrasts and friendship really well perceive this, I'm starting to wonder if their hair color and clothing differences from back and white & colorful to dark also were purposely part of this.
